  • Local Restaurants & Cafe Bars

There are 3 good restaurants (La Dehesa, La Yedra or La Sierra) each with a café/bar within 2 minutes drive of Walnut Farm. They also have tapas selections or you can ask for the ‘Menu del Dia’ for a Spanish set menu.

Local restaurantsYou can stroll to La Dehesa if you prefer which is next to Repsol petrol station. La Yedra (just over the motorway bridge) also has a natural spring outside where you can fill your bottles up with fresh water straight from the mountain!

La Sierra is also just 2 mins drive from Walnut Farm over the motorway bridge and has a café/bar and restaurant. There is an amazing selection of cakes in the cafe and internet access just 3 euros an hour. You can view photographs of La Dehesa and La Sierra by clicking here.

  • Shops & Supermarkets

Shops & SupermarketsRepsol  ‘Mini Market’ is just a couple of minutes away at the motorway junction and you can buy most essential items here including alcohol. You can walk or jog to the shop in the mornings to buy your freshly baked baguettes for breakfast!

Shops & SupermarketsLa Veronica’s Shopping Mall in Antequera is just over 10 minutes drive away and includes a large supermarket (Eroski), a cash point, restaurants/tapas bars, clothes & shoes shops, dry cleaners, a casino/pool bar and cinema showing weekly English films. The shops in the Mall do not close at siesta time.

There is also a Supermercado, Lidl and Aldi in Antequera itself, plus many shops, banks etc  but remember the Spanish siesta. Shops in Antequera open 9-1am and again 5-8pm.

 

  • Beaches & Lakes

The nearest beach is on the coast at Torremolinos – just 30 mins drive or you could go a little further to Marbella, Nerja or Benalmadena. There is also the option to visit the famous millionaire’s playground of yachts and ferraris, Puerto Banus just 45 mins drive.

Lake Iznajar  is about 25 mins drive away just  outside the town of Iznajar, which overlooks a massive reservoir, dubbed 'The Lake of Andalucia'.  A beautiful warm lake for swimming with beaches, fishing and restaurants. The lake is teeming with fish, has an abundance of birdlife and is great for sailing and windsurfing. The man-made beach area, just outside the town, offers safe bathing and has a small seasonal bar/restaurant. During July and August, pedalos and small sailing boats can be hired.

 

  • El Torcal

El TorcalEl Torcal is a stunning lunar landscape made from limestone formations as these mountains were under the sea water, millions of years ago. This has to be seen as it is out of this world! There is a new visitor centre and the area is fabulous for walking (different route levels), bird watching (many birds of prey) and is only 15 mins from Antequera.

 

  • Golf

Just 10 mins away is Hotel Antequera Golf, a spectacular 18 hole Golf Course, surrounded by the beautiful natural park, El Torcal. The length of the course is over 6000 meters and its olive trees, acorn trees and natural herb plants, add to the natural environment and the special character of real inland Andalusia.

The course is a real challenge for professional and amateurs with a variety of interesting golf shots. Different options to play every hole according to your level of golf. The course offers a professional shop, practice area (with illuminated driving range), putting greens, chipping zones, bar, cafeteria, 2 restaurants, conference room and function rooms up to 500 people. There is even an indoor heated swimming pool, SPA, sauna and  steam room.

 

  • Donkey SanctuaryThe Flamingo Reserve & Donkey Sanctuary - Fuente de Piedra

Fuente de Piedra is a mere 15 minutes away and contains a huge lake famous for wild birds, especially flamingos!

It is a real sight worth seeing and includes a visitor centre too and there is also a Donkey Sanctuary nearby in the town.

 

  • The Wolf Park, Crocodile Park & Aqua Land

The Wolf Park (Lobo Parque) is just outside Antequera with 4 interesting species. Day and night tours are available and there is also a barbeque ‘Howl Night’ – what fun!

The Crocodile park at Torremolinos is fascinating and you can even hold a baby crocodile! Experience the rapids, the black hole, super slalom, kamikaze twister and much more at Aqua Land, which is next door and together these two attractions make a great family fun day out!

 

  • "Las Navillas" Adventure Centre

Las NavillasOn our doorstep – just 2kms away from Walnut Farm, down a simple country road is Las Navillas Adventure Centre. You can choose from quad biking, horse riding, pony rides, paint balling, archery, wall climbing and zip slides. Try the hour long 4x4 jeep trip in the mountains where you will see wild boar, deer, foxes, birds of prey etc  - all for just a few euros.

There is also a fantastic country restaurant opposite Las Navillas Adventure Centre which is very reasonable. It is extremely popular with the locals on Sundays. Pop down in advance and book as Sunday Lunch is a must! However, vegetarians beware as there is every sort of meat and game imaginable. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

 

  • Churches & Museums & "Los Dolmenes"

There are about thirty religious buildings in Antequera, between churches and convents and the most important of these are the Real Colegiata de Santa María de la Mayor and the Church of San Sebastián. You can also visit Los Dolmenes : three monuments, Menga, Viera and El Romeral form one of the most outstanding megalithic sites that were used for ritual and burial purposes.

  • Birdwatching / Walking / Sightseeing

Visit El Chorro nature reserve with lakes and gorges, stunning scenery and fabulous walks. Also visit the landscape at El Torcal and the lake at Fuenta de Piedra for the breathtaking scenery, great walks and bird watching.
